Early Ford Bronco: 1st Generation (1965–1977)

We are thrilled to share some interesting information about the early Ford Bronco with San Antonio and New Braunfels drivers. With a unique chassis, the first-generation classic Ford Bronco was an off-road SUV that could carry passengers comfortably. Here’s what else you should know: 

• The early Ford Bronco’s 92-inch wheelbase would classify it as a small SUV. 
• Standard four-wheel drive was initially offered on all models.
• A 105-hp inline-6 from the Ford Falcon served as the basis for the first-generation Ford Bronco engine
• With the early Ford Bronco, the goal was to provide drivers with a vehicle that could easily navigate off-road situations – and ultimately, was a huge success. 

2nd Generation Ford Bronco (1978–1980)

In 1978, these changes were introduced to the Ford Bronco, marking the beginning of its second generation as a full-size SUV:

• A 12-inch extension of the wheelbase, going against the grain of the American auto industry’s dominant trend toward downsizing in the late 1970s.
• A chassis borrowed from the Ford F-Series would replace the older Ford Bronco.
• The first-generation Ford Bronco will no longer be available in its various body configurations. Only a three-door body style was offered for the second generation of the Ford Bronco.

3rd Generation Ford Bronco (1980–1986)

Although otherwise identical to its predecessor, the third-generation Bronco was noticeably lighter and smaller. The F-Series chassis would be carried over, and it would maintain its full-size SUV classification.

1983–1990 The Ford Bronco II

The Ford Bronco II arrived on the market three years after the third-generation Bronco made its debut. As a compact SUV, this hit model was more akin to the original Ford Bronco than the third-gen version, but it did launch a new line. As time went on, the Ford Explorer gradually supplanted the Bronco II.

4th Generation Ford Bronco (1987-1991)

Despite sharing a chassis with its predecessor, the fourth-generation Ford Bronco got a slew of cosmetic and functional upgrades. The first Ford Bronco to feature leather upholstery, the Silver Anniversary Edition, was also part of the lineup.

5th Generation Ford Bronco (1992–1996) 

The new fifth-generation Ford Bronco didn’t get many updates. The classic removable hard-top was discontinued with this generation, along with some changes to the interior and safety features. 

6th Generation Ford Bronco (2021–present)
